Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan is an eminent academic leader with over 27 years of experience in engineering education, research, and institutional development, including more than 17 years of significant contributions to the United Arab Emirates higher education sector. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), UK, and a Fellow of the Curtin Academy, Curtin University, Australia, in recognition of his sustained excellence in teaching, scholarship, and academic leadership.
Professor Ponβs research interests include machine design, optimisation techniques, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy, with a strong focus on engineering for sustainable development. He has published over 175 research articles, authored multiple books, and presented his work at leading international conferences. He is an approved Doctoral supervisor at several universities, including Curtin University, Australia, and has successfully supervised multiple PhD candidates to completion.
Professor Pon is frequently invited as a keynote speaker, resource person, and technical committee member at major international conferences and academic forums across Australia, Egypt, Germany, India, Iraq, Italy, Malaysia, the Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the UAE, the UK, and the USA.
Professor Pon has made lasting contributions to shaping the engineering education in the UAE. Β As a founding academic for the Mechanical Engineering programs at Manipal University Dubai, Amity University Dubai, and Curtin University Dubai, he has played a pivotal role in designing academic programmes, establishing state-of-the-art laboratories, securing programme accreditations, strengthening industry partnerships, and enhancing student learning and graduate outcomes. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing engineering education while fostering innovation, research excellence, and industry engagement.
He is an active member of several leading international professional societies, including Society of Automative Engineers (SAE), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), FEDA, and the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). He is a Senior Member of IEEE and the Student Activities Chair of the ASHRAE Falcon Chapter.
